Easy Newborn Knit Hat

At my church this week we are making hats for the babies at the hospital. I put together this really simple pattern. It knits up really quick and I know it will look so sweet on a brand new baby.

Dainty Baby Hat

This hat is so simple and very cute!  Here is the link to the cast on that I used.  This hat fits 0-3 months.  Happy knitting!

Newborn baseball hat

My sister-in-law is having a little boy coming up and I wanted to try knitting something special.  This was a very fast knit, I feel like the embroidery part was a little tedious, but it might get better with more practice.  For this hat I used size 6 needles and cast on 60, I purled the first round and then did stockinette stitch for 27 rounds and began my decrease witch was:

Round 29:*knit 4, k2tog* repeat to end

Round 30- knit

Round 31- *knit 3, k2tog* repeat to end

Round 32- knit

Round 33- *knit 2, k2tog* repeat to end

Round 34- knit

Round 35- *knit 1, k2tog* repeat to end

Round 36- *k2tog* repeat to end

cut yarn and weave through remaining stitches, weave in all loose ends.

Get your red yarn and cut a long piece embroider in the baseball stitching.  I found the best way to do this is go up through (center of your baseball stitch) go a little ways up and over then take the needle down.  Bring the needle back up through the center and over the other direction forming the “v” baseball stitch.  Keep going judging on  where to start curving it around the hat.  It gets easier with practice.  I had to rip mine out a few times before I was happy with it.

Happy Knitting!

Lola Hat

This hat was a fun project for me.  This was my first hat that I wrote on my own.  I love how it turned out!  This hat is very easy and knits up pretty quickly.  My only word of advice is pay attention to where the purls are.  I kept getting into a grove of knit 1, purl 1 that I missed those purl stitches a few times and would have to back track to fix my mistakes.  Now I just can’t wait for colder weather to put this baby to use!  This fits me pretty good and is just slightly big on my little 4 year old.  Happy knitting!

Newborn Ribbon Hat: Modified

This is my go to hat when I have a baby shower or a friend that is having a little girl!  I found this pattern on Ravelry, it was written for straight needles.  I have just slightly modified it to work  with  2 circulars, or the magic loop method.  Typically I used the two circular needles, but this time I thought that I would be adventurous and give the magic loop method a try!  I have to say that I am loving the magic loop.  The only thing that I am having trouble with (which I did with the 2 circulars also) is I keep losing track of which row I am on!  If you are not familiar with the magic loop method here is a link to a youtube video that helped me: Magic Loop Method   and if you are wanting to try the two circular needles you can check out this youtube video here: 2 Circular Needles.  I am in no way taking credit for this design.  Thank you to Ashley Britt for posting it on Ravelry!
